'Growing Up in Australia' is the first single from the Coolites' debut album Caravan Park Summers. It focuses on the importance of shared histories to friendships, communities, nations. How old friends work off such ingrained reference points that conversations always flow easily.

The song broadens that idea to an Australia-wide shared history and how the "small" things that occur are the real Australian identity, not what the politicians or media revise and present back to us years later. And even though some of these events happened before your birth they still shape you and are part of your identity.
